Hi, I’m Norbert, and I specialize in teaching adult English learners with at least a lower intermediate level (CEF: B1; TOEIC: 400), and increasing your confidence and fluency in three areas:

A communicative approach

.

Based on my experiences I focus on natural communication in my lessons and I use stories, news, and real-life topics and examples. I never use boring textbooks or teach you boring grammar. My teaching style is very relaxed and focused on teaching you practical, useful, and real conversational English, just like the way you have learned your own native language. The learning is natural; you won’t even notice you’re studying.

What you can expect

I focus on helping you to become a better speaker, to be able to communicate about any topics naturally just like a native speaker. In this process, I will help you to naturally increase:

• Confidence
• Fluency
• Communication Skills

Specifically I can teach you:

1. General English Conversation – We can go through a systematic conversational course from B1 level all the way to C2 level, or focus on specific areas and topics you want to – for example My Life, My Hobbies, Travel, or Cultures.
2. Business English – either a comprehensive Business Communication course covering communication in all major areas of business life, or a specific area you want to work on like email communication, meetings, or presentation skills. You can bring your own project or topics as well. I have worked in non-profit management for 16 years in the US so you can utilize my extensive experience in that field as well.
3. Specialized Topics: Current News, Economics, or Politics
   I have a lot of prepared lessons and news sources I use to help you learn about and discuss topics in these areas. I love studying economics and politics and am just generally crazy about current news. Having lived and worked in three different continents and cultures means you can use my experiences in those areas as well.

About me

.

I was born and grew up in Hungary so my native language is Hungarian. That’s right; I am actually not a native English speaker. As a matter of fact, I was actually very bad at English while I was in Hungary as I just couldn’t learn it from books and in regular school classes. I even failed my English class at the second year of my college! Can you believe that?

But when I went to the United States, I just naturally interacted with people every day, and I have reached native-level English in about two years. Now I even teach English at a university!

So if I, who once failed at English, can reach native level, then anyone can – and I want to use my experience to help you to do just that: to become a confident, fluent, and knowledgeable English speaker.

• Lived 21 years in Hungary, 18 years in the USA, then lived in Japan since 2008
• I have worked 16 years in nonprofit management in the USA, in the Youth Development field
• I love traveling and have visited 18 countries and 42 US States (from 50)
• My other hobbies: learning about economics and geopolitics; watching American Football; swimming and being outdoors
• I am married to my beautiful Japanese wife, and we have four children
