Introducing the Off2Class Newcomer Curriculum Training Program

We are excited to release Module 1 of the Off2Class Newcomer Curriculum Training Program, an asynchronous training series designed for both new and experienced secondary ELD teachers of Newcomer students.

Training Program Module 1: Welcoming Newcomers – Strategies for Success

What is the Off2Class Newcomer Curriculum Training Program?

The Newcomers Training Program is an asynchronous training series on effective teaching for Newcomer students. It is designed to help both new and experienced secondary ELD teachers.

After completing the program, teachers will be familiar with Newcomers’ unique challenges and needs, useful terminology related to Newcomers, and effective English language development strategies.

What does Module 1 of the training program cover?

Module 1 explores:

  • The characteristics and needs of Newcomer students
  • Challenges faced by Newcomers in US schools
  • How to create a welcoming, inclusive learning environment for Newcomers

After completing this module, teachers will be able to identify Newcomers’ needs and implement strategies to support their academic, social-emotional, and logistical challenges.
