Making small talk and casual conversation can be surprisingly difficult for English learners—especially at the pre-intermediate level. Topics like greetings and the weather, and asking yes / no or wh- questions about hobbies and weekend plans might seem simple, but they require learners to apply vocabulary, question forms, and listening skills in real time. Without guided practice, students often struggle to initiate or maintain conversations naturally.
