3 Free ESL Lessons for Newcomers

With the influx of Newcomers into districts across the U.S. comes a unique challenge for educators — teaching students who enter the education system with little to no English. Here’s where the Off2Class Newcomers Curriculum comes in.

These 3 free ESL lessons for Newcomers help your students practice and build a foundation in English. They are at the WIDA ‘pre-entering’ level, covering basic English a level below the typical entry point for most courses.

When should you teach these free ESL lessons for Newcomers?

These lessons aren’t just about learning English; they’re about adapting to a new life in an English-speaking country. They’re about providing Newcomers with a foundation of English vocabulary they can use to start communicating and to access the world of knowledge waiting for them in the rest of the Off2Class Lesson Library.

The three free downloads include:

Classroom Expressions (WIDA: Pre-Entering)

Introduce objects and actions in the classroom. At the end of this lesson, students can understand common objects in a classroom, actions in the classroom environment, and the language used by teachers.

Basic Verbs for Learning (WIDA: Pre-Entering)

Introduce verbs for learning. At the end of this lesson, students can understand verbs for studying and learning.

Talking about Routines (WIDA: Pre-Entering)

Introduce vocabulary to describe daily routines. Provide speaking practice. At the end of the lesson, students can ask and answer simple questions about daily routines.
