If you have a brick and mortar, you may have recently considered trying to get your ESL school online. In the current state of the world, online interest across all industries is at an all time high, and education is no exception. It’s a trend that’s only increased over the years, and today’s global circumstances are giving many the reason they’ve been waiting for to get your ESL school online.
Off2Class has been helping schools transition online for the last six years, and we’ve worked with every kind of brick and mortar institution there is, from K12 to higher education to private language schools. Over the years, we get the same questions again and again about what it takes to go online, and in this post I’ll answer some of the most common questions and dispel some of the myths.

Answer: Less time than you think. A lot of institutions get stuck in the planning phase. If you fall into analysis paralysis, it’s hard to get out, and the ones who are doing well are the ones acting now. Depending on a few factors, with the right tools in place you can fully transition in as little as one week.

Answer: No, but a lot of schools try to make it more complicated than it needs to be. The truth is that it doesn’t take much to get your ESL school online. The key is to focus only on what you need right now. Instead of dreaming up a perfect ideal scenario that you must have from day 1, think about the minimum thresholds you need to meet in order to keep teaching your students. Everything else can come later.

Answer: Students know the difference between a real class with a real teacher and an app on their phone. Students crave teacher-led activities. Now more than ever, students are looking for interaction, something no app or resource can provide. Having a brick and mortar gives you a kind of credibility that nothing online can match.

Answer: It’s usually less expensive than a brick and mortar. The key is knowing how to keep infrastructure costs down and leveraging tools that are free or that you already have. This is why it’s helpful to have someone working with you through the process.
