District Challenges

1. Adapting to a rapid increase of ELLs.

Stride K12 opened its third school in Texas in August 2021, which saw the number of English Language Learners (ELLs) grow dramatically: from 950 to 2000 by November 2021. In response, the team of Case Managers has more than tripled in size.

2. Supporting first-time virtual teachers.

For many new Case Managers at K12 Stride Texas, it is their first time teaching virtually. As staff members have been recruited throughout the semester, it is important that they can hit the ground running.

3. Answering the needs of a highly diverse student population.

While many ELLs in Texas speak Spanish at home, around one-third of ELLs speak other languages like Chinese and Russian. Regardless of their Language 1, ELLs need the same level of instruction.

4. Preparing for a State-specific test for ELLs.

Case Managers work with ELLs to help them progress through the Texas-wide TELPAS test. With such a diverse group of students, Case Managers have many demands on their time.
