About You

.

I’ve always been fascinated with the English language. As an IT professional, I’m always looking for systemic ways to make things simpler and easier to understand. Combine those two, and I helps my students learn the proper way to speak in English in a whole new way.

I’ve been teaching in a business setting for more than 25 years. For the past 5 years, I have been teaching phonics – “the proper ‘sound’ of English,” as I explain it – to adults and children for whom English is a second language.

I follow a structured approach that has proven to help students understand English more effectively and easily as well as be better understood. Students learn words that are used in everyday speech as well as how to pronounce things so that they sound more confident and authoritative in their communication.

A phoenetic approach

.

In three phases (Skills, Knowledge, Fluency), I use Phonics International’s Systematic Synthetic Phonics program to methodically teach every sound spoken in the English language, helping students understand spoken English more easily as well as speak using English more fluently.

Next, I use the Off2Class placement test feature to build a lesson list that targets the areas of grammar the student needs help with. Finally, I use timed written exercises to embed real-time English ability and fluency skills into my students.

What you can expect

Students can expect homework. Lots of homework! This includes practice sheets to learn sounds as well as both online and offline homework to cover all aspects of the language. Learning English takes more than a simple half-hour conversation a couple of times per week!

Hi! I’m glad you’ve stopped by. I’m an American, now living in the Philippines. I moved to Southeast Asia to do what I enjoy doing – help people learn English! As a native of Michigan (born and raised), I am a natural speaker of “standard” American English. Let me help you learn how to speak understandably and clearly!
