4 Free Phonics Lesson Plans [Updated]

We’re excited to share four free phonics lesson plans. These are free lessons within the Off2Class Foundational Literacy Curriculum.

These lessons are designed specifically for secondary ELs, so they are age-appropriate and not adapted from something that’s focused on younger learners or native speakers. Since they are aligned with the Science of Reading, they work for any student who needs to build literacy. However, they are especially helpful for newcomers, Long-term ELs, and Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE).

Which 4 phonics lesson plans are included?

LS.1.1: Simple Vowels (WIDA: Pre-Entering)

Introduce simple vowels (monophthongs). At the end of the lesson on literacy, students can distinguish simple vowels and produce an anchor word for each.

Helpful note: This lesson is most effective with plenty of phoneme models from the teacher.

LS.1.2: Complex Vowels (WIDA: Pre-Entering)

Introduce complex vowels (diphthongs, r-controlled). At the end of the lesson on literacy, students can distinguish complex vowels and produce an anchor word for each.

Helpful note: This lesson is most effective with plenty of phoneme models from the teacher.

LS.1.3: Consonants 1 (WIDA: Pre-Entering)

Introduce the bilabial, labiodental, dental, and alveolar consonants. At the end of this lesson, students can distinguish between bilabial, labiodental, dental, and alveolar consonants and produce an anchor word for each.

LS.1.4: Consonants 2 (WIDA: Pre-Entering)

Hello. Thank you for providing access to what you have learned through your experiences. It is very helpful. I have a few questions if that ok? I didn’t sign up for the information you were offering in the previous section because you asked for my website. I have not developed my website yet because I have no experience actually building a website and I have feel the website should target our market fit which is not totally developed yet. So I we be giving the wrong first impression. How do you target students in foreign countries..
I can’t find we exact term you were using quickly but your curriculum you develop is that based on some educational model of what was thinking behind your development of educational material. Should it target your product market mix? Do you have a method to evaluate your students progress?
Last but not least. You did not mention anything about consideration when price of course. Would you be able to share some your thoughts on pricing ? Do you have methods for choosing teachers. How do you set up the teacher pay level. Any other information you can provide on teacher selection would be very much appreciated. Thank you
P.S. That is not my URl. Will have one. I just used so I could send my comments

Hello, and thank you for your thoughtful comment!

We’re glad you found the insights helpful and appreciate your interest in Off2Class. I’d be happy to address your questions!

First, regarding your website — you’re absolutely right that your website should align with your market fit, but don’t let that hold you back from starting. Many educators and tutoring businesses begin with a simple landing page or social media presence before developing a full site. If you’re still refining your target market, consider testing different approaches through platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, or even a basic one-page website with a clear message about what you offer.

As for targeting students in foreign countries, this depends on your niche. Some teachers leverage social media, partnerships with schools, or online marketplaces like Preply and iTalki. Others focus on SEO and content marketing to attract learners through blog posts or YouTube content. Are you looking to target a specific country or type of learner?

Regarding curriculum development, Off2Class is grounded in language acquisition research, and we’ve designed our materials based on communicative language teaching (CLT) and structured linguistic progression. We aim to provide resources that are adaptable to different teaching contexts while ensuring alignment with proficiency frameworks like CEFR and WIDA. We also incorporate feedback from educators worldwide to refine our lessons continually.

For student progress evaluation, we offer built-in assessments, including placement tests and formative assessments, to track learning outcomes. We’re also developing AI-supported tools to help teachers assess writing and speaking more efficiently.

On pricing, this is a complex topic, but a key consideration is balancing affordability for students while ensuring fair compensation for teachers. Many online teachers set pricing based on their experience, demand, and the market they serve. Some start with competitive rates and increase pricing as they gain traction. Do you have a particular pricing model in mind for your courses?

Teacher selection and pay vary depending on the business model. Some platforms hire teachers directly, setting rates based on qualifications, while others allow independent educators to set their own prices. If you’re planning to hire teachers, it’s essential to consider factors like qualifications, experience, and the level of student support needed.

I’d love to hear more about your plans and how you’re thinking about these challenges. Feel free to join our official Facebook group where you can learn more tips & tricks and gain access to our teacher community: https://www.off2class.com/4-free-phonics-lesson-plans/

      Best,
      Christine
